Jisoo’s Most Mature Phase: BLACKPINK Star Conquers Netflix Romance

Jisoo just proved she’s more than ready to carry an entire Netflix series on her shoulders.

The BLACKPINK member stars in Boyfriend on Demand, a 10-episode K-drama that premiered March 6th, where she plays a webtoon producer escaping into virtual reality dating. At 31, Jisoo is embracing what she calls her “most mature phase” while juggling her own company BLISSOO and BLACKPINK’s explosive comeback with their DEADLINE album.

Leading Lady Energy: Jisoo Carries 95% of the Show

Director Kim Jung-sik wasn’t kidding when he said “Jisoo carries more than 95 percent of the story.” In Boyfriend on Demand, she plays Mi-rae, a character with multiple personas navigating virtual dating scenarios alongside actor Seo In-guk. The role demanded serious range, and industry insiders are taking notice of her growth as an actress.

“I chose this project because I could really relate myself to the way Mi-rae wrestles with her worries and works through them,” Jisoo told Korea Times. The storyline hits different when you consider Jisoo founded her own agency BLISSOO in February 2024 after leaving YG, taking complete control of her career trajectory.

BLACKPINK’s Record-Breaking Return Meets Solo Success

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. BLACKPINK’s mini-album DEADLINE dropped February 27th, breaking first-day sales records with 1.46 million copies sold after their four-year hiatus. But while the numbers are massive, fan reactions have been mixed, with some critics calling the album “disappointing” on social media.

Meanwhile, Jisoo’s been building her own empire. After signing with Warner Records in 2025, she released her EP Amortage, proving she can thrive both as a group member and solo artist. “This is good, or that is bad… I would like to tell my younger self to step out of the box. Try new things,” she reflected to Refinery29.

The New Blueprint for K-Pop Maturity

At 31, Jisoo represents something we’re seeing more of: K-pop idols transitioning into full-fledged entrepreneurs and serious actors. Following bandmates Jennie and Lisa, who also launched their own companies, she’s showing there’s life beyond the traditional idol timeline. Her approach feels refreshingly grounded, describing this phase with “lightness and humor” as she manages her own career.

Boyfriend on Demand isn’t just another K-drama credit. It’s Jisoo proving she can anchor a major Netflix production while simultaneously celebrating BLACKPINK’s legacy and building her individual brand. That’s main character energy if we’ve ever seen it.
